TOSHIBA INSTALLS THE AQUILION 64 CFX AT CARDIOVASCULAR INSTITUTE OF THE SOUTH
64-Slice Detector CT Delivers True Volumetric Imaging For Faster, More Accurate
Diagnosis of Cardiovascular Disease
ACC Booth #3551 Hall D
TUSTIN, Calif., March 1, 2005 – Expanding the clinical application of multislice
computed tomography (CT) in cardiology, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. (TAMS)
today announced the installation of two AquilionTM 64
CFX multislice CT systems at the Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) in
Louisiana. CIS is one of the largest, most comprehensive and advanced centers for
nonsurgical and surgical treatment of heart and vascular disease in the United States.
Toshiba will demonstrate the Aquilion 64 CFX and its advanced cardiac applications
at the 2005 Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology (ACC)
in Orlando, Fla.
"By offering the most comprehensive set of cardiovascular CT imaging capabilities
with the Aquilion 64 CFX, Toshiba is raising the standard of care in cardiology
with faster, more accurate and complete cardiac exams," said Doug Ryan, director,
CT Business Unit, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. "With our multiple systems
at CIS, cardiologists can take advantage of Toshiba’s superior 64-row Quantum detector
and volumetric imaging technology that enable complete coverage of the heart within
a five to ten second breath-hold."
Founded in the small southern Louisiana city of Houma, an area with one of the highest
incidences of cardiovascular disease in the industrialized world, CIS is a group
of more than 30 cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons representing every specialty
in heart and circulatory medicine.
"Our interventional practice has already experienced tremendous benefits with Toshiba’s
previous Aquilion multislice CT technology for peripheral vascular imaging. The
installation of two new Aquilion 64 CFX scanners will provide CIS with additional
coronary artery imaging capabilities, while dramatically increasing examination
quality with even faster CT scans and improved overall image quality," said Joey
Fontenot, chief operating officer, Cardiovascular Institute of the South. "CIS will
soon be able to take advantage of the most advanced 64-slice CT technology available
to perform comprehensive coronary and peripheral vascular imaging studies to aid
in the diagnosis and planning of interventional procedures."
Most Advanced 64-Slice CT System
Built on the same platform as the Aquilion 32 CFX, the Aquilion 64 CFX features
the industry’s most advanced multi-detector CT imaging technology available. Utilizing
Toshiba’s unique 64-row Quantum detector, the Aquilion 64 CFX is designed to deliver
high-speed, high-resolution cardiovascular imaging with the lowest noise and most
anatomical coverage.
The Quantum detector also enables the Aquilion scanner to acquire 64 simultaneous
slices of 0.5 mm with each 400-millisecond gantry revolution. The result is the
most precise isotropic imaging of the heart or any region of the body during a breath-hold
under 10 seconds.
